Course Description

Anatomy & Physiology

This course provides a basic study of the structure and function of the human body. Topics include a basic study of the body systems as well as an introduction to homeostasis, cells, tissues, nutrition, acid-base balance, and electrolytes. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of anatomy and physiology and their interrelationships.

Medical Terminology

This course provides a basic study of medical terminology with an emphasis on accurately spelling, pronouncing, and relating the correct medical terms of the structures and functions of the human body, as well as the major disease processes, diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, abbreviations, drugs and treatment modalities

Pathophysiology

This course provides basic knowledge of the pathologic processes affecting the organs and tissues of the human body. Emphasis is placed on etiology, pathogenesis, pathology, clinical features, therapy and prognosis of diseases.

Pharmacology

This course provides knowledge of pharmacology principles through the use of numbered core concepts that are organized according to body's systems and diseases.

Basic ICD 9

This course will develop an understanding of coding and classification systems in order to assign valid diagnostic and procedural codes. The courses will include the validation of coded clinical information, sequencing and case mix/severity of illness data.  Volume 1, 2 and 3

Basic CPT/HCPC’s

This course will develop an understanding of CPT and HCPCs Level II coding.  Providing an introduction to principles of CPT/HCPCS Level ll coding methodologies, classification of Evaluation and Management Services and documentation guidelines.

Advanced ICD 9

This course will apply the student's mastery of coding skills to learning the principles and philosophy of coding logic. The student will be challenged by over 600 more complex diagnoses and procedures scenario’s. The student will choose the best codes based upon knowledge of coding guidelines, as well as understanding of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology.

Advanced CPT

The course will cover higher-level examples of CPT/HCPCS Level ll coding assignments.  The student will be challenged by over 600 more complex scenario’s.

Intro to Health Information Technology Management

This course will introduce the concepts of electronic health records guidelines, personal health records, and Health Data Access, Use and Control.

Reimbursement Methodology

This course will introduce different reimbursement methodologies, including the Prospective Payment System, Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), Medicare, managed care, and other third party payers. The student will be exposed to concepts of the Case Mix Index and maintenance of the charge master.  Exposure to the entire reimbursement cycle.

Medical Office Procedures

This course provides basic education in the components of healthcare documentation and medical office management used to support the reimbursement functions with a specialized focus on billing procedures.

Medical Billing Program

The Student Learns:

*Accurate processing of
  medical documentation
*Proper compiling, storage
  and retrieval of a
  patient's medical record.
*Proper entry of claims
  data into the Billing
  system.
*Receive and post proper
  reimbursements on claims.
*Follow proper medical
  office confidentiality
  procedures (HIPAA)

Read what people are saying about us...

As an Office Manager of a primary care medical practice, I had the privilege of taking the Coding Boot Camp under Ms. Nina Massey. Ms. Massey's style of teaching is a relaxed atmosphere that gives the student the opportunity to participate and not feel you will be belittled if your answer is not correct. She provides you with real coding situations, which she had encountered in her many years of experience. By taking Ms. Massey's course, I learned the importance of learning the guidelines for coding and the importance of coding correctly in order to maximize your reimbursement. The relaxed atmosphere makes it easier to learn detailed information.

Certification Preparation

The Student Learns:

How to prepare for the national certification exam from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Upon completion, students are prepared for the Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CSS-P) and/or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification exams (depending on previous background and work experience). Upon completion, students will be able to apply coding principles correctly, assign diagnosis codes, physician and hospital procedural codes, Health Care Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), Medicare supplies, materials, injections and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) codes.
